Juneau, Alaska

August 2006

Our original plan was to take the fast ferry over and have lunch with and meet the granddaughter of the cousin in Whitehorse who works for Holland America.  She is now in the Seattle office, so we decided to take a day cruise to Juneau.  On the way we met two very interesting young women, Fredricka, a student from Germany and Kira, who works in Whitehorse but originally from South Africa, both experiencd world travelers.  We saw our first whales on the way over and glimpsed more glaciers.  A bus ride out to the Mendenhall Glacier was part of the the tour, leaving three hours on our own downtown.  After our last few stops, Juneau was definitely the big city.  Several cruise ships were in and all the shops were bustling with tourists.
